Stop Signs Unwarranted

November 19, 2022
The Delaware County Engineer's Office has submitted the results of an intersection study requested by the Township. The study, guided by state standards, concluded that there are unwarranted stop signs due to low traffic volumes in the following locations: Saint Andrews Drive at Frasier Road, Somerset Avenue at Gainey Court, Hilmar Drive at Grisham Street, and Hilmar Drive at Pine Hollow Drive.

As a result, it is recommended that Genoa Township remove the stop signs that had been installed in error many years ago as a misguided traffic calming measure.

Holiday Recycling Efforts

Holiday lights are not accepted in curbside Rumpke bins, but a special collection box will be available at Township Hall in order for the material to be recycled properly. 

Christmas trees will also be accepted separately from curbside materials at the Township maintenance facility to be chipped and used as mulch within community parks.

Fall Leaf Clean-Up

Dumpsters will be located at the Maintenance facility located at 7049 Big Walnut Road throughout the month of November to dispose of compostable, organic yard waste.
 
Avoid blowing or raking leaves and grass into the curb or street where the debris will accumulate in drains. Clogged stormwater infrastructure can lead to flooding.

Halloween:  2 ways to celebrate!

“Trick-or-Treat Village” is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th from  12 noon – 3:00 p.m.  The event is held at the Fire Station and the adjacent maintenance facility located at 7049 Big Walnut Road.

This event is separate from door-to-door Trick-or-Treating in Genoa Township neighborhoods. This tradition is scheduled to take place on October 31st from 6-8p.m.

Portion of Red Bank Road to Close the Week of August 22 and August 29

A portion of Red Bank Road will close the week of August 22nd for a culvert replacement. It will reopen over the weekend and then close again the following week for another culvert replacement. Please plan accordingly if you use Red Bank Road between Center Village Road and Briton Woods Drive.

Center Green Drive Trail to be Replaced

The trail that follows Center Green Drive will be replaced the week of August 22. Children who use the trail to get to Alcott Elementary School and Westerville Central High School should plan alternate routes until the project is complete. 

Cops vs Kids Water Balloon Fight

The annual cops vs kids water balloon fight tradition continues on this year on August 2 as part of National Night Out. The evening's purpose is to foster relationships between police and the communities they serve. Genoa Township will host its event Tuesday, August 2 from 5pm-8pm at McNamara Park.

In an effort to increase recycling and reduce litter blown out of open bins, Genoa Township is offering recycling carts at a reduced cost to residents while supplies last.

For a one-time $10 fee, residents now have the option to purchase a subsidized recycling cart.

Halloween Plans

Trick or Treating/Beggars' Night occurs on October 31 each year, no matter which day of the week the date falls on. That means the annual tradition will take place on a Sunday this year from 6:00-8:00p.m.

The Township event Trick or Treat Village is cancelled again this year due to Covid-19. We hope to offer the event again in 2022.

Pickleball Court Set to Open

A new pickleball court at Center Green Park is expected to officially open on Tuesday, October 5 with an official ribbon cutting beginning at 6:00p.m.  The event will feature a demonstration of the sport and the chance to win a prize.  Residents are invited to join the Park Advisory Committee and community leaders in the celebration.

Delaware County Reaches Level 3 Public Health Emergency

Delaware County was upgraded Thursday, July 16, 2020 to Level 3.   Face coverings in public are mandated by Ohio Department of Health in all counties that are designated as a Red Alert Level 3 Public Health Emergency.

Genoa Township Receives AAA Bond Rating

Genoa Township, Ohio has earned the highest possible credit rating of “AAA” from Standard & Poors Global Ratings. Bond Ratings are a method of evaluating relative credit risk and had to be obtained before the Township could issue bonds to finance the construction of a new police station.

Bond Issue- Police Station

Genoa Township Police Department have outgrown their current building and so voters will decide whether or not to fund the construction of a new police station.

Smothers Road Closure August 13th

August 08, 2018
Franklin County Engineer will construct a roundabout at the intersection of Smothers and Schott / Red Bank beginning August 13, 2018 with completion 45-60 days later. 

To bypass construction use Harlem Road to Gorsuch to Red Bank on the north and Harlem to Walnut to Cubbage to Central College to the south.

Road Maintenance Notification

Char Mar Drive, Sugar Maple Drive, and Indian Court will be finished with 1.5 inches of asphalt beginning Thursday, July 26 through Saturday, July 28th by Delaware County contractors. In the event of a weather delay, work will resume as soon as practical.

Central Ohio Symphony to Perform at McNamara- CANCELED

*CANCELED* The Central Ohio Symphony's Village Brass will perform prior to Movies at McNamara Park on Saturday, July 21st beginning at 7:30 p.m.  At dusk, the movie Wonder will be shown.  Free popcorn provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring  blanket or lawn chair to sit on and bug spray.

Oxbow Road to be Replaced

July 05, 2018
Beginning Monday, July 9th, Oxbow Road will be replaced by Township contractors. One lane of traffic will be maintained throughout the project which is expected to last just under two weeks.

The current roadway varies in width which will be corrected with this project to a consistent 19 feet across.

Smothers Road Closure - DELAYED

July 03, 2018

Smothers Road at Red Bank/Schott Road was scheduled to close for 45-60 days for the construction of a roundabout beginning on July 9, but is delayed until further notice. This project is being managed by the Franklin County Engineer.

South Old 3C to close

June 18, 2018
Delaware County Engineer’s office will be closing S. Old 3C Highway between Hawksbeard Drive and Mount Royal Avenue for road reconstruction. The road will be closed on Monday, June 25, 2018 and reopen on Thursday, November 1, 2018.

Road Repairs

May 22, 2018

Road and trail repairs are underway.

  • Trail sealing (May 23-24): Along the trail adjacent to Freeman Road from Old 3C west to Rt. 3 and along the trail nearest the parking lot at Center Green Park. The trail will reopen for weekend use.
  • Deep crack repairs: Park Bend Drive (expected completion by mid-June), Alston Grove (expected completion by end of June), with St. George to follow.
  • Resurfacing: Preparations for resurfacing are underway now with final coat to be applied later this summer on Sugar Maple, Char-Mar, and Indian Court.

A Cool Cause- Donate a Fan at Genoa Fire Department

In partnership with the Delaware County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and People in Need of Delaware County, the Genoa Township Fire Department is serving as a collection point for the donation of NEW box fans now through September 15 or until cooler weather prevails.

Text to 911 Available Now

Text to 9-1-1 service is now available in Delaware County.  This is especially useful for people who are hearing or speech impaired and, of course, if someone finds themselves in an emergency situation that requires maintaining silence.

New Police Station Update

May 02, 2018
Trustees unanimously voted to build a new police station with the final design and size to be determined. Land on the North West corner of State Route 3 and Big Walnut will be purcashed by the Township and this site will be considered for the location of the new station with the final site to be determined.  To finance the project, a bond levy will be placed on the November ballot the final terms and millage to be determined.

Special Committee Recommends New Police Station

A special subcommittee of the Police Advisory Committee presented a recommendation to the Board of Trustees at the April 5th meeting on the location, size and financing mechanism for the construction of a new police station.  Review the recommendations here

The presentation was informational only and no action was taken.  The topic will be discussed again at the April 19th meeting of the Board of Trustees.

New Medians for Maxtown Road

March 29, 2018

Maxtown Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction between State Street and McCorkle Boulevard beginning the week of Monday, April 2. City of Westerville crews will be installing new medians at the access to Northridge Crossing/Northridge Plaza to prohibit left turn movements in areas with high crash rates. Certain left turns will be permitted as marked. This work will take approximately 10 days to complete.

Park Restrooms Set to Reopen

March 29, 2018
Park restrooms are winterized annually to prevent frozen pipes.  These restrooms are set to be re-opened for the warm weather months beginning on April 3rd so long as the forecast does not include any further freezing weather. 

Restrooms are located at Center Green, McNamara, and Freeman Road Parks.

Cram the Cruiser Food Drive

Donate non-perishable food items to support the Genoa Township Police Department's effort to Cram the Cruiser for People In Need of Delaware County, Ohio.

A cruiser will be parked outside of the Kroger on Maxtown Road to be filled with donations on Saturday, March 10th from 10am-2pm.

Easter Egg Hunt for Ages 1-10

Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Westerville Central High School.   Zones will be marked by age for children 1-10 years old to participate.  One adult may accompany each child in the age 1-2 category. No other adults are permitted in the hunting area.

Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. including snacks, games, inflatables and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny. The hunt begins promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Citizen's Fire Academy Now Accepting Applications

Sign up to become a part of the Genoa Township Citizens Fire Academy. The Academy runs once a week for 2 hours for a 12 week period from March – June of each year. 

Learn and take part in multiple exciting fire department disciplines. This is a participative academy for adults of all ages and physical capabilities. Participants will learn to pull hoses, crawl in smoke (theatre), mitigate a Haz Mat incident, learn CPR, drive a fire truck, and more.  

There is no charge for this course.

Rumpke Rates Set to Increase

January 10, 2018
Rumpke rates are increasing to $15.39 per month beginning in February.   Quarter 1 bills have been averaged to reflect the new rate that takes effect part way through the billing period.

Rates for recycling carts will be $2 per month and trash carts $3 per month.  Red recycling bins will remain free and can be requested by calling the Genoa Township Maintenance Department at 614-568-2080.

Kids Enjoy New Sledding Hill

A sledding hill was newly created and opened at Jaycox park this season.  A gravel access road takes users back to a small parking lot that overlooks the hill.  Find the access road on the north side of Jaycox Road, immediately adjacent to Route 71 on its east side.

Basketball Court Added to Center Green Park

August 16, 2017

The vision for the basketball court and opportunity met when contractor McCoy Paving, Inc.  approached the Township with the offer to donate material and services to pave the court.  The funds Jennifer had raised for the hoops were installed by the Township along with benches on either side of the regulation sized court.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign launches in Genoa Township

August 15, 2017
The enforcement campaign will run through September 4, 2017 which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend, one of the deadliest times of the year for drunk-driving fatalities. So far in 2017, the Delaware County Ohio State Highway Patrol Post has made over 372 impaired driving arrests, according to Post Commander Lt. Marcus Pirrone. An additional 33 impaired driving arrests were made in Genoa Township during the same period.
