Citizen Police Academy

Once a year, Genoa Township Police invites residents to experience the duties of law enforcement as a member of the Citizen Police Academy.  The cohort meets for two hours once each week for eight weeks to explore topics such as patrol procedures, tacitcal team, live fire exercises ("Taser", handguns, shotguns, and rifles), narcotics and O.V.I. testing, jail tour, and K9 unit. 

Those interested in participating in this free program must be a minimum of 18 years old, complete an application, and pass a background check to be considered.  A call for applications is made each January and will remain open until the course is full. Priority will be given to Township residents.  If space allows, non-residents may be accepted into the program. 

Space is limited to 20 individuals and fills quickly. Registration for the 2020 cohort is now open. Classes for will be held on the following dates from 6:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, March 3 
  • Tuesday, March 10
  • To prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Citizen Police Academy has been canceled.  Please apply to participate again next year.
After graduating, participants may opt to stay involved with the Department through the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.
