Last month, I sent out an email talking to you about possible burglary attempts in Medallion Estates.  At that time, a neighbor witnessed a couple of young males next to his neighbors home.  Following a hunch, Det. Molly Welch went to a school and looked for the suspect vehicle in the student lot.  A vehicle matching that description was found, and the driver of the vehicle later talked to Det. Welch saying that he and a friend were participating in “Senior Tag” at school, and were waiting for their “target”.  It is now determined that no burglary was attempted or committed.  The damage to one of the homes was old damage, and not recent.

On 04-23-10, a home was burglarized on Africa, between Polaris Parkway and St. Andrews Dr.  Entry was gained by going through an opened window on the back side of the home.  The home was ransacked and numerous items were stolen.  Evidence at the scene suggests that after the burglars gained entry into the home, they opened the garage door and parked their vehicle inside so that it would not look suspicious to passing motorists.

On 04-26-10, at approx. 10:30 am, a resident on Mistflower Ln. in Medallion Estates called 911 to report two white males hiding in the bushes between his home and his neighbors home.  The suspects then saw the caller, and took off running.  The caller then was able to see the suspect get into a white Maxima (late 90’s to early 2000’s model) and leave the area.  When officers arrived, they canvassed the area, and found that several homes on Mistflower had the rear doors tampered with, with several handles broken.  No evidence of entry was present.  The males were described as both Caucasian, with brown hair and both wearing shorts.  One with a white muscle shirt, and the other with a yellow shirt.  Both suspects were in their late 20’s to early 30’s.

We always encourage any resident that sees something out of ordinary to contact us immediately.

Last Friday at approx. 2pm, at the Walnut Creek Elementary School, a 9 year old female student went in to use the restroom.  She looked down and saw an adult white male looking at her from underneath the stall door.  She immediately left the restroom while he was still inside.

We have obtained video from that day and from that approx. timeframe we are able to see one white male walking into the building, and do not see him again on video for a short time later.  It is unclear who he is, and what business he had at the school, and if he is the male involved with this incident.

We are diligently working towards finding the identity of this male seen on the video, and finding the identity of the male in the restroom.  If you have any information, please let myself or Det. Molly Welch know.  mwelch@genoatwp.com and 614-568-2064.

I would like to add that the school district has been very responsive to our needs in this investigation and they are taking the next steps in addressing this issue.

Also,

We are in the process of implementing a Senior/Physical Disability Initiative to ensure our residents are “Not Alone”.  Sharon Thacker, formally one of our police officers and our first canine officer, will be the police department’s liaison to the Genoa community.  The initiative will encourage seniors and individuals with a physical disability to register with the police department.  The purpose of this registration is to place individuals on a police department phone call list so that they will be called by phone or visited at least once a month to check on their well being, that their home is secure, their heat, water, etc. is working and they are not being victimized by phone scams, con artists, etc.     The initiative will ensure contact with the resident, who otherwise might go unattended for days.

If you are interested in additional information or signing up for the Senior/Disability Initiative, please contact Sharon Thacker at 614-568-2079 or sthacker@genoatwp.com.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thank you and be safe.

A report was filed with us today where a 13 year old male student at Genoa Middle school  said that last night, 05-28-09, at around 9pm to 930pm, he was riding his bike home from a friends house.  He was approached by a male in a car (unknown make, model, or color, but it wasn’t a truck or SUV) where the subject asked the child for directions.  The subject then reached out at the child touching his clothes near the neck line.  The child screamed and the subject drove away rapidly.  The subject never got out of his vehicle during this incident.

This occurred on Medallion Dr. West at Early Meadows.  The vehicle drove towards Tussic St. in an unknown direction.

The child was not able to get a good look at the subject.  No facial features, race, clothing description, are available.

Our road units were advised of this as well, and this information was passed on to area agencies.
