Crime Tips
Burglary Prevention
-
Be alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
-
Keep your house secured, which includes closing your garage door at night.
-
Of the 29 reported burglaries during the year 2004:
- 27 of them (93%) occurred during the daytime (6am-6pm)
- 2 of them (7%) occurred during the nighttime (6pm-6am)
- 8,600 break-ins a day, 1 every 13 seconds *
-
Contact the department for a House Check when you are away from home for extended periods of time.
-
Intruders hate light. A thief's greatest fear is being seen. Make sure all doors and entrances are well lit.
-
Make it tough on car thieves. Lock your car after exiting and never leave your keys in the car.
-
Thieves want cash or items easily fenced for cash. Small electronic equipment, such as laptops, CDs, cameras and jewelry should be out of sight in your vehicle.
