Community Oriented Policing
Community Oriented Policing can be defined as a "policing philosophy that promotes and supports organizational strategies to address the causes, and reduce the fear, of crime and social disorder through problem-solving tactics and police-community partnerships". It is our goal and Mission Statement that we serve our community based on the Community Oriented Policy and to help problem solving with our residents and identify the concerns of the community members. Believing in this philosophy, together, we stand as one.
"A Child is Missing" Photo I.D.'s
In April of 2009, we purchased hardware and software to produce Missing Child I.D.'s for the residents of Genoa Township. These ID's are offered FREE OF CHARGE. These ID's are used in the unfortunate event that a child has gone missing, whether it be in Genoa Township, or any other part of the country. The ID would contain a physical description and a photo image which would be immediately given to Law Enforcement so that precious time can be saved in the recovery of the child. All of the data is stored electronically and locally here at our station. It is not sent into a national database, however, in the event that copies of this ID is needed to outside Law Enforcement Agencies and/or News Media, we have the ability to send the ID via email.
If you would like to have one issued for your child(ren), please contact Det. Michael Riehle at 614-568-2069.

House Watch Program
One of the services offered by Genoa Township Police Department for our residents is our House Watch Program. This is for added peace of mind regarding your home and consists of officers doing extra patrol past your residence while they are performing regular patrol duties. The House Watch program is free, and is useful when you will be travelling out of town, when your family is on vacation, or if there are extenuating circumstances that necessitate extra patrol around your home.
To request a House Watch, contact our Police Administrative Office at 614-568-2060 between 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, or click
HERE to send an electronic request, and we will be glad to put you on our House Watch list. The information required includes your name, address, contact phone numbers, anyone who is permitted to be in your residence, and other pieces of information. This is helpful in providing information to our officers so that they can quickly recognize anything that might be amiss at your residence while you are gone.
Senior/Physical Disability Initiative
We are in the process of implementing a Senior/Physical Disability Initiative to ensure our residents are "Not Alone". Sharon Thacker, formally one of our police officers and our first canine officer, will be the police department's liaison to the Genoa community. The initiative will encourage seniors and individuals with a physical disability to register with the police department. The purpose of this registration is to place individuals on a police department phone call list so that they will be called by phone or visited at least once a month to check on their well being, that their home is secure, their heat, water, etc. is working and they are not being victimized by phone scams and con artists. The initiative will ensure contact with the resident, who otherwise might go unattended for days.
If you are interested in additional information or signing up for the Senior/Physical Disability Initiative, please contact Sharon Thacker at
614-568-2079 or sthacker@genoatwp.com.
Block Watch Program
Block Watch programs are an essential ingredient to Community Oriented Policing. With today's society, Law Enforcement needs the assistance of its citizens to ensure that our communities are safe and crime free. When neighbors watch out for each other, it is the most effective method of crime prevention.
The following areas are neighborhoods that currently have a Block Watch Program. If you do not have a program in your neighborhood and would like to receive information about starting one, contact Lt. Ron Thompson or Lt. Greg Yurkovich at (614) 568-2060.
