Genoa Township Trustees joined residents to open a new basketball court at Center Green Park. Not only does the new facility support healthy lifestyles and recreational pursuits, but it also showcases how residents can work with the Township to impact their community.
"Serving as Trustee is most rewarding when I get to work alongside residents and staff to fulfill a shared vision for our community," said Trustee Karl Gebhardt.
Center Green Park serves the surrounding neighborhoods with trails, scenic natural areas, a fishing pond, and playground. Resident Jennifer Frank’s home overlooks the park and from this vantage point identified the need for the addition of a basketball court.
"I thought basketball would be a great activity for the older neighborhood children to enjoy," said resident Jennifer Frank. "Friends and neighbors were ready to pitch in funds for the hoops and Trustee Gebhardt eagerly assisted in coordinating."
The vision for the basketball court and opportunity met when contractor McCoy Paving, Inc. approached the Township with the offer to donate material and services to pave the court. The funds Jennifer had raised for the hoops were installed by the Township along with benches on either side of the regulation sized court.
To celebrate Township Trustees hosted a ribbon cutting and free throw contest at Center Green Park on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 PM.
