Training

Every day includes some type of training.  This month the firefighters practice under ice rescue techniques. 

Because the ice was 6" to 8" thick, a chain saw had to be used to cut a hole in the ice.

Special rope with internal wiring allows the divers and the dive tender to communicate.  Because of black water conditions, the diver has no ability to determine his location.  The diver depends on the rope and the tender to control the search pattern.

When the weather is cold, special precautions must be taken to guard against hypothermia.  An air inflatable tent with a portable forced air furnace is used to protect personnel and equipment from the cold air.
